Copa NYC 2009 Soccer Tournament

Overview: Catharsis was approached by Copa NYC creators Chris Noble and Spencer Dormitzer during the seminal stages of this highly ambitious project to help produce what would become the first-ever amateur "World Cup of NYC". Sanctioned by such prestigious organizations as the United Nations, the Sports Commission, NYC Parks and Recreation, and the Mayor's Office, this event marked the first of its kind as a non-club, community-organized, over-18 amateur soccer tournament. The event took place over two consecutive weekends in Queens and featured 16 "national teams" each representing a different ethnic community residing in NYC, all competing for the pride and glory of their community and the coveted "Mayor's Cup".
