The "R" stands for: respect.
16 = 16 international bboy crews
As one of the largest, most ambitious bboys / hiphop events in the world, R-16 was met with great international attention and delivered on all major fronts in terms of talent, exposure, tourism and hiphop education!
With two full days of performance and crew battles, audiences were additionally treated to view live graffiti by the world's most renowned crew, The Seventh Letter, as well as being able to watch the local Korean qualifiers pop and lock it out for the right to represent Korea at Battle of the Year in Germany.
But the highlight were the battles.
As R-16 is an invite only event, these 16 teams represent the most talented, premiere bboy crews on the planet - and they brought the heat. On a beautifully stunning stage designed by Brent Rollins and The Seventh Letter, the dark horse, yet incredible crew out of Russia (Top9) made it to the finals, only to be defeated by the immensely talented and hometown heroes from Korea - Gamblerz.
Hundreds of millions of homes in Asia and Europe were able to watch the battles live as they were broadcast to over 70 countries under the international broadcast umbrella, KBS World.
The international hiphop and bboy communities united during the 2 days of R-16 as all eyes were on Korea as we continue to inspire and spread the positive messages of hip hop: dance, unity, team work, history and respect.
